- PublicationStudy on the problems of auto transmission gearbox for vehicle(2015)Qamaruzzaman MohammadThis thesis basically reports the problems of automatic transmission gearbox for vehicle. Fundamentally, the study on autonomy and the working principles, investigation on the problems, and to come out with approaches and remedies to overcome the problems of the automatic transmission in ensuring the reliability and durability have become the main purpose of the research. Overhauling processes of the automatic transmissions had been done to ensure the thoroughness of the problems investigation of the automatic transmission which had been conducted and completed in a workshop. The approaches and steps in ensuring the transmission durability and reliability over its lifespan depend on the problems and causes which in most cases the components are needed to be replaced as solutions. In addition, most of the problems had been diagnosed and been identified are caused by lots of factors of the transmission itself and the handling manner of the owner. Hence, the durability and reliability of the auto transmission gearbox do not depend only on the technology it built in, but in the human nature as well.
10 3 - PublicationDesign of a shell eco marathon Asia vehicle-prototype using hydrogen fuel cell(2017)Srithayvaan MuniasparanThis thesis is about design an environmentally friendly prototype car that operates efficiently on hydrogen fuel cells. The vehicle is constructed according to 2016 Shell Eco Marathon rules and regulations, where it consist of 3 wheels, light weight build for race purpose. The goals of this project are to achieve a fuel efficient prototype vehicle with small rolling resistance aerodynamics and light in weight. This project is a wide scoped project various of several technical engineering methods such as CAD (computer aided design), CFD (computational fluid dynamics), management skills such as communication and marketing. The prototype is build using aluminum T6061- T6 alloy for the chassis and the body is build using carbon fibre The vehicle comprised of 3 wheels, two piece of 17 inch tyres and a single 18 inch tyre for the rear part. The steering system was built by referring to the Ackerman's principle. CFD analysis is done to the body of the vehicle at 50km/hour speed. The drag coefficient is calculated. The stress and displacement analysis is also included to study the maximum possible damage in case of a coalition.
5 1 - PublicationDesign and development of low cost directional adaptive head lamp beam system for vehicles(2015)Yogeraja SagaranSafety is an important parameter in today's every vehicle and statistics shows that 60% of road accidents in Malaysia occurs during low light conditions especially at night time driving. Conventional headlamps do not provide illumination in the right direction on curve roads. Due to this constraint, Adaptive Headlight System (AHS) has been proposed by many researchers. The aim is to improve driver's visibility and therefore, achieve a significant increase in safety and driving comfort. AHS is an active safety feature that optimizes the illumination of curve roads during night time. The main objective of this work is to design and develop a low cost directional adaptive headlight system to rotate the headlamp horizontally corresponding to the steering angle input. Components that are available in the market and suitable for the development of the system were tested. The developed system consist of sensors (potentiometer and ultrasonic distance sensor), microcontroller and a servo motor. The Arduino microcontroller interprets the input from the analog sensor which is the rotary potentiometer and outputs digital signals to the servo motor to adjust the headlamp suitable for the corner. Developed system is implemented into a Perodua Myvi and critical parts of the AHS were subjected to various tests in order to measure its accuracy, its reaction time and the impact of the system. Obtained results are examined and any finding that maybe be useful for future development are discussed.
7 2 - PublicationDevelopment of Fe-based alloy through warm forming route(2013)Yogasewrarow Sree RamaluFe-based alloy has the most industrial usage. However, current practice of Fe-based alloy development is through foundry process which is expensive and the process is capable to produce only ingots of alloys not the end product. Therefore, this thesis reports the investigation on whether Fe-based alloy can be developed using powder compaction route. Iron powder ASC 100.29 was mixed with other alloying elements and the powder mass were compacted at different temperatures to generate green compacts. After that, the defect free green compacts is sintered in inert gas atmosphere at different sintering schedule. XRD characterization is performed to the sintered products to observe whether the sample become alloy. The effect of sintering temperature was studied in terms of mechanical properties, focusing in particular on the density measurement and compressive strength testing. The results showed that Fe-based alloy can be successfully developed using powder compaction route and the mechanical properties of sintered products are affected by the forming and sintering temperature.
5 1 - PublicationDevelopment of low cost motorized can cutter opener(2015)Yogarajavarman RajagopalThis thesis reports development of low cost motorized can cutter opener. A brief literature review has been conducted regarding the project title. There are many existing motorized can cutter openers available in current market that shares a common trait of high price category. Therefore, an affordable motorized can cutter opener was visualized after a detailed benchmarking .Once all the fabricated components have been successfully assembled a prototype of low cost motorized can cutter opener was developed in respect to the project objective. The fabricated prototype consists of an innovative implementation of replaceable manual can cutter opener. Both innovation and improvisation on the development of low cost motorized can cutter opener has led to the success of the overall project.
