- PublicationAuto discovery in fiber to the home using MATLAB GUI(2025-07-17)Farah Wahidah RazaliEPON is the new technologies for broadband to access networking technology in FTTH. This thesis is a report based on how the auto discovery processes take part in the EPON. The automated discovery of ONU and the coordination of the operation between ONUS and the OLT is the mandate of MPCP. In order for one ONU to be discovered and automatically detected, the RTT of each ONU must be studied and being known. Simulations of the calculation of RTT are made using the MATLAB GUI to analyze the value of RTT itself. The number of offered load and also number of ONUS are being varied in order to analyze the RTT value result.
1 1 - PublicationDesign and development of PV heating system(2025-07-17)Kabir Singh Mand A/L Sarjit SinghThis thesis reports on the design and development of the PV heating system into a prototype. The developed prototype is able to demonstrate the functions of a photovoltaic (PV) panel to generate electricity for heating water purposes. Water heater contributes to one of the highest electricity bill consumption monthly due to its high rated power usage. The high electricity bill consumption of a water heater is mainly due to unnecessary power usages. These power wastages can be prevented by designing and developing a PV heating system. The project initially involved the study on how photovoltaic panel worked that collected the solar energy from the sun and converts it into direct current (DC) electricity and how it is connected to provide an alternating current (AC) for the water heater of the house appliances. To control the output voltage and power of the solar panel, designation of an electronic controller has been made which was later built into a prototype and to convert DC to AC, an inverter prototype was also built. The PV heating system project was ensured to be on the track for energy saving purpose; hence a certain parameters such as its efficiency have been concerned after the design of the prototype was made.
- PublicationFuel characteristics analysis of oil palm waste charchoal blended with coal(2025-07-17)Hidayatul Akmal HasbullahCoal blending at pulverised coal-fired power stations is becoming increasingly common as electric utilities attempt to save costs, meet gas emission limits and improve the combustion behaviour of the coals. The main objective of this project is to determine the fuel characteristics analysis of oil palm waste charcoal blended with coal at different blend ratios. In this project, the oil palm waste used to be converted into charcoal was Empty Fruit Bunch (EFB). This report discusses the evaluations and predictions of the behaviour of EFB charcoal blended with coal. It begins with a literature review mainly on why coals are blended, the methods and sample preparation of blending coals, fuel properties of the blends as well as the particle size analysis. Current practice to determine the fuel properties is by obtaining the calorific value, proximate analysis and ultimate analysis of the blended fuel. This research is also enhanced with a particle size analysis where the behaviour of particles for fuel blends are analyzed. The results obtained are compared and discussed with those related analyses done previously by many others. Blending of coals with EFB charcoal method can be prevailed and fully utilised in Malaysia since the blend has many advantages as discussed. This could be seen as a replacement to that of the imported coals besides contributing to the development of renewable energy sources in Malaysia.
1 1 - PublicationDesign of fisher's linear discriminant (FLD) based pattern classifier for face recognition(2025-07-17)Kalaai Selvan A/L MuthiahA high-speed method of face recognition using the combination of Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) that is also known as Fisher's Linear Discriminant(FLD) is presented in this thesis. LDA is used to reduce the dimension of the original face in an image and the area illumination variations are lighten. Once the dimension is reduced, PCA is used to find the linear combination of features that have the most total varience in data. Through this a lot of discriminative information will lost when throwing some components away. This actually can produce in bad result especially when it comes to classification. So, in order to find the combination of features that seperates best between classes, Eigenvectors been used as well. This linear projection method FLD is applied further in feature vectors to get the most discriminating and invariant feature of faces.
- PublicationLongitudinal rail restrain test with pandrol fastening system(2025-07-17)Faizul Azwan Abdul Razak @ AbusahakThis thesis report is about a study on the Longitudinal Rail Retrain Test that performs to the railway fasteners to indicate their performance. The fastener that involve in this project is the PANDROL fasteners, one of the most popular fasteners in the world. This type of the fasteners is used in Malaysia by the Kelana Jaya Line that also known as PUTRA LRT. The test basically can be done in the laboratory but because of the lack of equipment due to the expensive of the stuff it self it cannot be done in this country. So in order to indicate the performance of the fasteners used by one of the railway track in this country we had to simulate the test. One of the finite elements package software is used to simulate the test. The program is known as ALGOR. The result of the test will be will be analysis between the one that done in the laboratory and the one that done by using ALGOR. This project also covered study about the fastening system from the beginning of the railway system until the one that used now. The last part of the thesis is the comparison of the difference between the conventional fasteners and the PANDROL fasteners.
