- PublicationIncorporation interactivity in a multimedia engineering tool(2026-01-05)Thiyagarajan S/O MuniandyThe last decade of the 20th Century, has been described as the Decade of Multimedia. Multimedia has enormous potential from the point of view of self-based learning and it can serve as an independent complementary tool for enhancing the learning process. Instead of going through the inane, straitjacketed information as contained in the text book, though multimedia the learner is exposed to a variety of information which helps in a clearer understanding of the subject as well as in whetting the appetite to know more. With the rapid advancement in the Information Technology, the multiple media, animation, audio, video and graphics, becomes easier to integrate thus an interactive multimedia system can be developed to solve the problem faced by conventional education system. The low-cost multimedia development can really enhance the permeation of multimedia to the people level. Its technology is ready, and the infrastructure for training technicians and producers is being set up. Therefore, the advantages of using multimedia in education have led to the development of this project entitle "Incorporating Interactivity in a Multimedia Engineering Tool". In this project a prototype of an interactive multimedia tutorial system to facilitate the teaching of introductory first year course Mechanical Engineering subject that is taught in the Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering program at Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), has been develop. The report explains the development of the prototype and the results reveals that the prototype can be used as a self-supplementary tool to help weak students in the subject matter.
11 26 - PublicationData structure courseware(2026-01-05)Shahman Bin SalimCourseware is a software product that assists either the student or the lecturer by increasing the learning effectiveness, cost effectiveness and accessibility. Some of the common courseware available now such as World Wide Web courses, on-line texts, simulations, problem based learning environments, and many more. Courseware is presented in a digital format instead of traditional ink and paper. Any courseware can be stored on diskettes, CD-ROMs or downloaded and viewed on your computer screen, on a PDA, or on a dedicated electronic reading device. Learning can be computer-based using an interactive CD ROM, or web-based (on-line), which may in turn be a virtual classrooms. The development of a courseware is critical due to the advanced in learning theories, moving from batch processing to appropriate mix of group and individualized learning that demands learners for flexible, interactive source as a revision.
15 25 - PublicationWireless global positioning system for remote devices (software)(2026-01-05)Choong Wan KhimThis thesis is to present a concept of displaying coordinate location intenerated with a satellite map view. The coordinate is obtained from portable device that capture GPS location from afar PC monitor. The mode of connection between the portable device and the PC is provided by a radio link. The scope of this project is to design and develop software application. The stating point is to obtain reasonable satellite map quality for this project. Then it follows with the linear ratio calculation for both coordinate system for earth map and software map. The tool for this development is including GoogleTM Earth, Visio Technical, Visual Basic 6.0, Photoshop and PTGui.
12 25 - PublicationWireless GPS for remote device (GPS system)(2026-01-05)Nur Syazana Binti ShahiruddinThis thesis reports the first phase to the development of a wireless Global Positioning System for remote devices; to design a GPS System to be used for remote devices tracking purposes. The developed system is a device having position locating capabilities that are further enhanced by circuitry that enables the wireless device to compute its local orientation to a fixed panel. This project is predominantly design based and requires the implementation of both software and hardware. The system is inclusive of a GPS module fixed to a remote device and is interfaced to an LCD screen and HyperTerminal, using a Peripheral Interface Connector, PIC. These first parts of the project would be interfaced with an RF Circuitry Module in the next phase of implementation. The RF Circuitry Module includes a wireless transceiver subsystem, a position location receiver subsystem, integrated with a User Interface Module inclusive of a central processing unit (CPU), a memory and a digital mapping service. The CPU is couple to local orientation data sensors of the RF Circuitry Module that provides information regarding the local orientation of the device. The device orientation and position of wireless device is used to identify certain information that is requested by the device. The information is then displayed to the user accordingly.
6 20 - PublicationThe development and implementation of a web based map maker(2026-01-05)Kwang Yong MingThis thesis testifies the development and implementation of a web based map making software. The project is aimed at creating a fun to use and user friendly map making software which can be used by all regardless of age and qualifications. This software is made available on the Internet on a website so that users can create maps for their own personal usage at the comfort of their own home. Before this web based map making software is developed, a comprehensive research has been undertaken in order to acquire as much information and knowledge about map-making. This thesis documents the complete course of action in producing and creating the map-making software and the website for the software. The project development is done gradually, in six different phases, and each phase is described extensively. The development of the map making software and the website uses Macromedia Flash 8, Macromedia Fireworks 8 and HTML, while an FTP client, WS FTP Limited Edition supports its distribution on UNITEN's Metalab server. The result of the map making software and the website can be viewed online with the web address http://metalab.uniten.edu.myt-aishalilkwang. Although the project has been completed, there is still a need to improvise on the contents and features of the software and the website. This map making software will hopefully be used practically in the near future.
