- PublicationLoad shedding scheme database for power system(2025-07-17)Norizzati Shafinaz SabriUndervoltage load shedding is an economical way and one of the methods to prevent voltage instability. The concept of UVLS is to shed certain load to cover the voltage drop due to power system failure. This thesis will presents a scheme database of under voltage load shedding considering contingency which is transmission line outage. There will be two databases which are at normal load case and at peak load case. Both cases is considering contingency. Voltage stability analysis using bus participation factor technique to know the location of load that need to be shed is be discusses in this project. Power system analysis toolbox software and 14-bus IEEE test system is being use to perform dynamic simulation and the result is based on time-domain analysis.
- PublicationMinimal load measurement locations for nodal load estimation(2025-07-17)Mohammad Nurzakwan NorayeenUpdated load information is important to accurately represent customer in electric power distribution systems. Many operating, control and planning studies in power distribution systems directly depend on nodal load information. Thus, the load driven nature of poer system and the interdependence of loads and system state (voltage magnitude and phase angles), thus thesis defines nodal load estimation in power distribution system with limited measurement This thesis presents a constraint of nonlinear problem formulation that treats loads as varying parameters, incorporates real-time measurements and practical guidelines by operating and loading constraints. Finally, the radial network meter placement problem in power distribution for enhanced load estimation accuracy requirement and the minimum cost. A heuristic incremental method is present in measuring the accuracy.
- PublicationAn investigation into the electrical and thermal aging(2025-06-05)Aeni Haryati HashimThe fundamental aim of this project is to investigate the effect of thermal and electrical aging on the properties of the transformer oil and then suggest methods to detect the level of aging. This report discusses the possible alternative methods; they are measurements of de conductivity, ac conductivity, density, refractive index, viscosity, and visible spectroscopy of the oil. A comprehensive description on how each of the alternative method can be implemented and the results acquired is presented. Two types of samples, the capped samples and the PTFE samples are prepared in the lab to investigate the effect of thermal aging and a sample called electrical sample for electrical aging. A comparison is then made between the prepared samples and a sample from an 'in-service transformer' known as the turret sample to verify the results obtained. A series of discussion done in this report leads to a conclusion that thermal and electrical aging changes the properties of the transformer oil and the rate of aging is affected by the amount of oxygen present during the process. Also, all the methods recommended can be used to observe the property change provided the samples being compared are from the same batch. However, the density measurement will provide the best accuracy and reproducibility, as it is less prone to random errors.
32 30 - PublicationA study of the dual fuel system using LPG for a single-cylinder, stationary diesel engine(2025-06-05)Ban Kean NamA significant number of portable generators used in the Malaysia's night markets are powered by single-cylinder diesel engines. The emission from these generators causes air quality in the crowded surrounding to deteriorate. Since LPG is easily available and is commonly used as cooking gas in the night market, an experiment was carried out to study the feasibility of using LPG as alternative fuel. This dissertation discusses the results of the initial phase to convert the stationary diesel engine to dual fuel system. In the experiment, a comparative study was carried out to compare the engine performance and emission with diesel and LPG as fuel. Engine modifications were kept to minimum in order to reduce cost. The results obtained show that the engine running on dual fuel system delivered a higher power and torque than diesel fuel on high load condition. The highest power achieved by dual fuel system was 2.8kW, an increase of 10 percent output, whereas for the low load operation, the diesel fuel performed better. A cleaner emission was observed while it runs on dual fuel system. There was less NO, and CO2 emission, a reduction of 12% and 6% respectively for high load condition as compared to diesel fuel. However, a higher CO emission was recorded in the exhaust for dual fuel system, the reasons were discussed in chapter five in this dissertation.
5 36 - PublicationSolar powered remote auto feeding with GSM mobile phone(2025-03-24)Syahrunizam Mohd SoidThese thesis objectives are to build a prototype for economical and low maintenance automatic fish feeder by using solar panel and Global System Mobile (GSM) network controlled by Microcontroller Unit (MCU). The automatic fish feeder is designed to give a food by farmer wished for every day. In this project, 10W solar panel is used for supplying Direct Current (DC) voltage to charge two's 12volts batteries. The charger controller connected between solar panel and the batteries; charger controller is acted as on/off switch, it's off when then batteries are full and on when the batteries are low from desired voltage set. In this system, one of the batteries is to give supply to motor (blower) and another one is to give a supply to GSM mobile and others utilities.
