- PublicationNumerical investigation on aerodynamics of blended winglets(2012)Nur Atiqah Madina MakhzanThis thesis is regarding the numerical investigation of Blended winglet device. The measure of how it could improve aircraft's performance is based on the observation of lift coefficient, drag coefficient and vortex formation under standard flight cruising conditions. Analyses were conducted using computational fluid dynamics to obtain the best results. Other software such as Pro Engineer was used to aid this investigation. As reference, several other wing and winglet models were generated to be compared to the winglet of interest. Results have shown an overall improvement on the aerodynamic characteristics of wings when equipped with blended winglet. The reason why this investigation is interesting is because not much investigation had been done on Blended winglets. Only few numerical and experimental studies had been done, most were published and owned by Boeing. This study will provide substantial data to benefit the progress of winglet technology.

The characteristic of tilting/rolling action of double decker buses are being study by researching from journal, internet, and data from the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS). By determine the characteristic of tilting/rolling action, the author will investigate the prevention of it by study the mechanical engineering aspect of the problem. The most dangerous bus accident is the rollover. An accident statistics - collected from the paper 'The severity of bus rollover accidents 'by Matyas Matolcys containing more than 300 accidents shows that the average casualty rate is 25 accidents. There are four major injury mechanisms in a rollover which may endanger the occupants which are intrusion, projection, total and partial ejection. The severity of a rollover accident may be specified on two different ways and the first one is based on the number of casualties (this is mainly used by the public opinion) and the other one evaluates the circumstances of the rollover (turn on side is less severe than roll down into a precipice). [1]. Analysis of bus rollover is caused out on this thesis for study and investigates cause of accident. The bus rollover analysis were defined in centre of gravity bus and simulated with rolling angle. Using the study, the safe cornering speed of bus can be defined for safety of bus, driver and passengers.
