Abstract
The increased demand for better water treatment procedures to ensure clean and safe water has resulted in substantial research into the antibacterial activity of graphene-based materials. The potential and rationale of graphene-based materials for antibacterial applications in water treatment are investigated in this review work. Graphene-based materials possess robust antibacterial properties, effectively deterring bacterial attachment, inhibiting biofilm development, and reducing growth. Various mechanisms of antibacterial action by graphene-based materials are described as they are intriguing options for reducing microbial pollution in water sources due to their broad-spectrum activity and potential for increased filtration efficiency. This review emphasises the necessity of ongoing R&D in improving the performance, scalability, and cost-effectiveness of graphene-based antibacterial technology. The findings highlight graphene-based materials' potential to revolutionize water treatment by increasing water quality and safeguarding public health. 2023 Elsevier Ltd
