Abstract
Economic dispatch is an important problem in generation of electricity. This research focuses on hydro thermal power plant whereby electricity is produced from two types of fuel which are water and coal. An electric power system's economic dispatch is the validation of the level of generation that supports the decrement of the entirety of the generation cost of system while the important system constraints are being fulfilled. In simpler words, normally the aim to produce electricity by utility companies is to attain the most economical generation without violating the constraints.
In this project, four optimization methods which are genetic algorithm, differential evolution, particle swarm optimization and simulated annealing are used. These algorithms are used to obtain the best power outputs and cost functions for a given hydro thermal economic dispatch problem. Besides, the fuels used in the thermal power plants produce hazardous gases that will endanger Mother Nature. This project also proposes some technologies that will help to control the emission of the greenhouse gases. These greenhouse gases must be controlled in order to preserve the Mother Nature and control pollution.
