Abstract
This thesis reports the outcome and results of a research on rainwater quality in the vicinity of Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) and also comparison between the rainwater quality and other international threshold limits. The rainwater is collected through a direct method of rainwater harvesting system. The intemational threshold limits that are used to make comparison are Malaysian Water Quality Index (WQI), United States Environment Protection Agency (USEPA) Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), and also World Health Organization (WHO) Drinking Water Standard. The study focuses mainly on doing laboratory experiments rather than theoretical research. The experiments are taken out to find out selected parameters that are listed in the above standards such as Ammoniacal Nitrogen, Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) and Total Suspended Solids (TSS). Another two heavy metal concentration in the rainwater sample, which are Iron (Fe) and Zinc (Zn) will also be determined. The parameters that are being compared are used to find out the water quality and then determined the suitability of non-potable usage in UNITEN area.
