Abstract
This project was to investigate and evaluate the effect of chloride and corrosion to the potential self-curing agent in High Performance Concrete (HPC) using diapers polymers. Slump test and compressive strength were carried out to determine the mechanical properties of the concrete. other than that, PH test carried out to determine the acidity of concrete, chloride penetration test to determine the chloride resistance of the concrete and accelerated corrosion test carried out to determine the corrosivity of the reinforcement bar mount in the concrete. Used diapers polymer was chosen as self-curing agent for the high performance concrete. In this study 3 methods of curing were carried out for every batch of concrete that is water curing, indoor curing and outdoor curing. The curing period are set to 3 days, 7 days and 28 days. Proposed % of used diapers polymer in this project were 0% as control mix, 1 %, 2 %, and 3%. Slump test carried out immediately after concrete mixing whereas the compressive strength test carried on 3, 7 and 28 days of curing. PH test, chloride penetration and accelerated corrosion test carried out after 28 days of curing. Workability of concrete has increased as the % of used diapers polymer in the concrete increased. The concrete with 1 % of used diapers went through indoor curing gives the highest compressive strength of 96.33 MPa on the 28 days of curing. The acidity of concrete decrease and toward strong alkaline which can obtain from the PH test. The chloride penetration decreases as the increase % of used diapers polymer increase. This result laisse with the result from PH test as PH value increase the chloride penetration decrease. The uniform corrosion rate of the reinforcement bar that mounted in the concrete with used diaper polymer is lower than the concrete without used diapers polymer. Concrete with optimum dosage of used diapers polymer gave better performance than the control concrete.
