Abstract
ABSTRACT
The involvement of human source into the radiated nuclear environment to diffuse the nuclear bomb is dangerous the worker. Thus, the robotic arm is developed for it do enter the nuclear environment with 9 kg of lead tailed along with it to diffuse the nuclear bomb which had been dropped to the earth surface to prevent radiation. The project objective is to run a detail analysis of the original design of the robotic arm for mobile robot developed by a group of Taiwanese engineers and to optimized the robotic arm. The purpose of the conducting the project is to have good conception of the robotic arm for mobile robot to know the specification of the robot to analyse and optimized the robot. The analysis of the specification include the centre of gravity analysis at different movement configuration, the design’s total mass, the critical component’s factor of safety and the consumption of power and torque value during the movement of the arm. The robot’s specification was optimized after the original specification of the robot was evaluated. The methodology of the project was planned to start with conducting literature review focusing on the nuclear environment, the mobile robot and the mechanism of the robotic arm to have better understanding on the area of subject. Furthermore, computer aid design programme, Solidworks, was used to perform a thorough review of the current design requirements. Then, the design is optimized based on the results of the analysis. The optimization process is conducted by modification of certain part of the critical components in terms of shape and parameters and the change of motor used to supply the power this serve the purpose of changing the result of previous analysis which is to reduce the total mass of the design, changing the kinematic movement of the robotic arm and to reduce the factor of safety of the critical components. Afterward, the optimized design go through the same analysis as the original design. From the result, the optimized design performed better in all the specification than the original design where it has smaller change of distance of the coordinate of center of gravity in different configuration, lower torque required and power to carry the load, lighter mass and appropriate factor of safety.
