Abstract
This thesis developed a simulation model of Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) generation system. Objective of this project is to analyse performance of the model in Malaysia's environment. Out of four known CSP technology, the Central Receiver or known as Solar Tower has been chosen to be developed. The model is then simulated with the chosen location, Putrajaya's (Malaysia) environment to fulfil the objective. There are two case studies considered in this thesis in order to analyse the performance of the model. One of it is the different possible Direct Normal Irradiation (DNI) input values. The result shows the linear proportional relationship of DNI value and solar share of the system. The other case study is on effect of larger aperture area of each heliostat. Larger reflective areas (heliostat) were seen to affect the solar share significantly. The number of heliostat used in this project is small and considered to be a constraint for this project. From both case studies, it can be concluded that a small scale CSP generation system is unable to be stand-alone system under Malaysia's environment. In addition, the CSP generation system is recommended to be built in larger scale in order to gain a significant output power. Besides that, it could enhance the accuracy on the study of feasibility of this solar technology in Malaysia's environment.
