Abstract
This thesis is a research done on arm wearable energy scavenger device. This project is done by using piezoelectric. Piezoelectric materials can change their geometry or dimensions when an electrical charge (voltage) is applied to them, and conversely they produce an electrical charge (voltage) when mechanical pressure is applied to them. To suit the project purposes, a piezoelectric material called PZT (Lead Zirconium Titanate) is used for the testing and implementation of the project, which is building a prototype arm wearable energy scavenger device which can harvest useful energy from piezoelectric to power up a small-powered application. PZT exhibits greater flexibility, is tougher and more durable, exhibits exceptional load capacity, operates with high efficiency, higher performance, measures large forces and displacements and can operate in harsh environments and over a wide temperature range. The PZT is insert and mounted in the arm casing. Thereby while walking or running, the excited PZT will produce electrical energy and converted into a useful form using a power management/ harvesting circuit. The role of this power generator circuit is to collect, rectify, regulate and store the energy produced from the piezoelectric source. The research and implementation of designing the power management system was done by referring at another student from University Tenaga Nasional, which is have design this when doing the piezoelectric project.
