Abstract
This thesis reports studies the potential to improve the energy efficiency of lighting systems at Universiti Tenaga Nasional. Energy consumption is discussed in this project due to high energy cost yearly in Universiti Tenaga Nasional. The cost effectiveness of different lighting technology alternatives is calculated. Electricity used by existing fluorescent lighting fixtures and some selected energy efficient lighting technology alternatives is compared. Relative to the existing system, installation of these lighting technology alternatives would result in energy savings. Furthermore, applying the method of life cycle cost (LCC) analysis and payback period the best alternative lighting system can been chosen. If the technology alternative that saved the most electricity was installed, CO2, SO2, NO, and CO emissions associated with the University's electricity been calculated. The alternative of lighting technology in this study will show that certain amount of energy can been saved, creates energy efficiency awareness among consumers and cost effective. Saving energy from lighting system can have a terrific impact on Universiti Tenaga Nasional utility bills and indirectly care toward the earth.
