Abstract
As a whole, the behaviour of the Malaysian offshore clay is considered somewhat ambiguous. This paper reports the initiatives taken to investigate and explore the typical and strength properties of the offshore clay specimens. In relevance to herein, time-dependency in regard to the strength of the offshore clay is a priority. Series of laboratory experiments were conducted to study the activity behind the effect of strain rate or shearing rate. Much depends on the magnitude of shearing rate in order to observe significant result. In this context, the offshore clay specimens were subjected to three normal stress prior to three degree of saturation. Additional variable of five shearing rate is proposed. Critically, the strength of offshore clay decreases substantially to the increase in shearing rate as well as moisture content.
