Abstract
Nanocomposite formulation of 2-beta-naphthoxyacetic acid was develop by the intercalation of 2-beta-naphthoxyacetic anion into Mg-Al-layered double hydroxide (LDH. The resulting layered organic-inorganic hybrid nanocomposite material was formed using 2-beta-naphthoxyacetic acid as guest anion intercalated into the Mg-Al layered double hydroxide inorganic host by direct co-precipitation method in conventional way. As a result of successful intercalation of 2-beta-naphthoxyacetic ion into the interlayer structure of Mg-Al-LDH, an expansion of the interlayer spacing, from 8.0 Å in the layered double hydroxide to 26.0 Å in the nanocomposite (MAB) could be observed in the powder X-ray diffractogram. In Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), MAB exhibits FTIR absorption bands characteristic of both BNOA and MAL. The O-H stretching mode of hydrogen-bonded and non-hydrogen-bonded hydroxyl groups from both the hydroxide layers and interlayer water in MAL and MAB appeared as a broad band centered.
