Abstract
This paper presents the development of a solar-powered water pumping system for a homestay in Bagan Datuk, Perak. The overall objective of this research was to assess the feasibility of using a solar system for the homestay. The specific goals were to do literature reviews on the concept and mechanism of a solar system for the home, to do the calculation on solar photovoltaic system sizing, to develop the system and to do an analysis of the solar power system performance. The scope of this paper is to conduct a study on solar panel concept and existing applications of the solar system, conduct research on the working principle of an existing solar system, perform calculations to design the solar system for homestay and to develop the prototype of the solar-powered water pumping system. The method that the author used to conduct the project is from collecting the data such as irradiance at Bagan Datuk, designing the prototype by doing a calculation to determine the sizing of solar panel, solar battery, and solar charge controller. Tilt angle, azimuth angle, irradiance, temperature, and solar output power testing are performed to do an analysis of the solar power system performance.
