Abstract
Data loggers have been around for decades with many integrated into industries for
continuously monitoring purposes. It reduced the presence of manpower on sites and
decreased potential accidents. Although industries have implemented it, for a
household or general usage aren’t very widely known. Data logger can also be used
for solar panel testing to see how much a solar panel extracts power if it is as it claims
on the specification. The idea was brought to this experiment to create a cost-effective
data logger that anyone with a basic knowledge of circuitry, Arduino and
programming can make one. Although Arduino has a board specifically designed for
data logging, it lacks wireless communication and can be proved to be more troubled
than seems. The prototype based on Arduino Uno with separate sensors and
equipment were assembled and connected to a 10W solar panel to monitor the power
extracted. Three out of four sensors are perfectly compatible with the setup using
10W solar panel, but the current sensor which is ACS712 (5A) module had trouble
reading smaller values of current and resulting in either zero or negatives in the total
value readings. Despite that, the prototype had been proved to be working as intended,
with a minor adjustment such as a higher specification of solar panel, such as 100W
would solve the fluctuations and the small values in the value readings
