Abstract
The College of Engineering pond has been abandoned for several years. It was a site of mosquito breeding due to stagnation of water in the pond. Therefore, a solar powered water circulation system has been proposed to be designed and developed for this pond to prevent water stagnation. Solar power water circulation system has been implemented throughout the globe for many years. This system in particular was installed in such way where it blends in with the pond's environment without causing inconvenience to other pedestrians. The system design includes selecting suitable components like water pump, inverter, battery, solar charge controller, solar panels and others for the pond. Developing the system was inclusive of installing all these components selected in suitable places around the pond. Calculations were done to evaluate the type and number of components used in this system. After being developed, this system was tested to validate the theoretical values of the time to charge the battery and the time to deplete the battery that were obtained from calculations while designing the system. The percentage differences were calculated after that. Being a Mechanical engineering student, one of the challenges in achieving the project objectives is lack of knowledge in the electrical and energy field. Using various sources like journals and additional courses, expertise and sufficient information was gained in producing this system. Other than that, installing this system's components to blend in with the pond was a tremendous challenge. It required hard work to install the pump under the pond after cleaning it and placing the solar panels at the place that receives maximum sunlight.
