dc.description.abstract | As we know, the ocean covers 70% of the world surface and therefore it represents as one of the largest renewable energy source available. Malaysia particularly has the potential to generate electricity from ocean energy because it is surrounded by the ocean. Being an oil producing country, Malaysia is heavily dependent on fossil fuels to satisfy its energy requirements. Malaysia in needs to get an alternative sources apart of coal and gas. Renewable energy is one of the best options. Of all the renewable energy available, not much research has been done to investigate the use of ocean energy to generate power in Malaysia. This thesis emphasizes as a case study to develop the first Malaysia ocean energy power generation system. This project aims to investigate, design and simulate an ocean energy power generation system for Malaysia. The project will have to review the different ocean energy power generation systems available such as wave, marine current and ocean thermal systems. The objective is to cater for electricity usage of a small island in Malaysia. Potential energy and area for the generation system to be developed will be identified. As a result of data provided, system based on one of the above methods or a hybrid system will be designed and simulated using Matlab Simulink. - | |
