Abstract
The increasing prices of natural resources and the diminishing reserves of it have prompted industries around the globe to opt for alternative fuels. One such alternative fuel is the Biogas fuel, a renewable source of energy that exerts a very small amount of carbon footprint. This study introduces on the utilization of Biogas as an alternative fuel in Oleochemical Industries. In Waste Water Treatment Plants (WWTP) of Oleochemical industries, tons of Biogas fuel are generated every year, however the fuel is not utilized but released into the atmosphere. This not only is a downside to the industry in terms of its financial status but also on the surrounding environment. The objective of this research was to do a thorough analysis on the viability of Biogas as an alternative fuel in boilers, in terms of its cost savings and efficiency. Data collection was done at an Oleochemical Plant in Johor Bahru known as IOI Pan Century Oleochemicals Sdn Bhd. Based on the data obtained, a combustion efficiency calculation method, known as the Indirect Method was used to carry out the cost and efficiency analysis of Biogas. The results are divided into three main aspects, focusing on the cost savings, a payback period analysis and a performance analysis. The results show that the utilization of Biogas as an alternative fuel has a significant impact on the industry.
