Abstract
Development nowadays growth tremendously from day to day due to increasing rate of population all over the world including Malaysia. Development such as high rise structure, residential housing area, highway development, public transport facilities infrastructure such as MRT, involve both on ground and underground construction. Indirectly, it will involve different type of soil profile and we need to consider the worst case outcome. For example, construction of structure on top of soft soil, to be exact is peat soil. Peat soil is well known as its reputation for agriculture purposes but not for structural loading. Soil stabilization and reinforcement has turned into one of the useful solutions for treat the soft soils like the peat soil, to obtain the required engineering properties so structures can be safely constructed without experiencing any foundation settlements. The use of admixture or grouting substance, for example, lime, concrete, oils and bitumen is one of most established and most common system for enhancing soil, but it is not an environmental friendly solution plus it is very costly. When it is mixed with soil, it forms a material called soil-cement. Therefore, effective treatment is needed to make sure peat soil can withstand structural loading. This project will determine the ability of peat soil in the term of shear strength and settlements. In order to prove the durability of the treated peat soil, several tests had been carried out.
