Abstract
Chemicals such as Calcium and Silica are considered to be influencing the strength of concrete. As Durian Shell is used in this study to assess the effects of Durian Shell Ash on concrete performance. This research also examines the Durian Shell ash properties. Durian Shell waste has evolved significantly over the years. The environmental problem surrounding Durian Shell can be minimized by converting Durian Shell to Durian Shell Ash and mixing it with the concrete mixture. A method is employed to burn the Durian Shell into ash. Durian Shell will act as a replacement for ordinary Portland cement. A percentage of 5%, 10% and 15% of Durian Shell Ash substitutes the cement in the concrete mixture. The strength of the concrete containing Durian Shell Ash will be tested and observed. The properties of the concrete are investigated during hardened state. The testing for hardened state is Rebound Hammer Test, Compressive Strength Test, Flexural Test, Tensile Test and Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity Test. Throughout the study, it is found that the Durian Shell Ash affects the properties of the concrete. The strength of the concrete is decreasing as the percentage of Durian Shell Ash in the concrete mixture is increasing This study shows the relevant points of Durian Shell Ash, but for large scale utilization, the manufacturing and waste management of Durian Shell need to be invented and further study need to be carried out on the optimum amount of Durian Shell Ash that can be substituted.
