dc.description.abstract | With the rapid development in technology, life has become so dependent on power electronics. Rectifiers are part of power electronics which convert AC power into DC power, and with every power conversion there is loss dissipated as heat. This heat may damage devices or cause fire. Rectifiers are also non-linear loads that will create harmonic currents that lead to the distortion of the electricity utility. This thesis aims to improve the performance of an existing topology rectifier circuit. The existing topology circuit is analyzed and studied carefully to find its limitations. IGBT is chosen as the switching semiconductor device. The existing topology rectifier circuit is implemented as single-phase. It is then configured by adding a PID controller to stabilize and control the output voltage. The circuit is finally improved by means of adding appropriate size of filters. The ripple of the output voltage is tremendously reduced indicating that the new rectifier circuit is better than the topology circuit. | |
