As a consequence of the growing importance of distributed generation, it is a very important task to study the distribution network behavior. Thus, the power loss is analyzed taking in account of the capacity of the solar photovoltaic generator in this thesis. The main objective of this thesis is to reduce the power loss of the distribution network after the solar photovoltaic generator is installed. In order to obtain the desired output, Power System Simulator for Engineering (PSSE) is used to simulate an IEEE 30- bus system network. The simulation is divided into three main parts which are static simulation, dynamics simulation and solar photovoltaic simulation. From the static simulation to the dynamics simulation, the overall power losses and the branches' power losses are observed and tabulated. Then, a solar photovoltaic generator is connected to the branch with the peak power loss for solar photovoltaic simulation The initial capacity of the solar photovoltaic generator is 100 KW. It is then increased to 500 KW and 1 MW to observe the impact to the overall power losses and the branches' power losses. It is observed that the 100 KW and 500 KW solar photovoltaic generator successfully reduced the overall power loss of the distribution network whereas the 1 MW solar photovoltaic generator increased the overall power loss of the distribution network. Among the three capacities of the solar photovoltaic generators, the 100 KW solar photovoltaic generator is the optimum size to reduce the power loss for the given distribution network.
