Abstract
Developing nations are witnessing an upsurge in rural electrifications due to advances in power electronics, state of the art control concepts, adoption of renewable energy sources (RES) and steady depreciation of levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) from RES. Currently, there are no standard voltage levels for an autonomous DC micro/nano-grids. In this paper, an attempt to assess the efficiency of a 48 V based autonomous DC nano-grid is done for rural electrification schemes. A novel load management technique for incorporating Solar PV and battery bank is implemented. A simulation model is developed and the results are validated through the designed hardware prototype system. The results indicate an efficient and stable operation of the over-all autonomous DC nano-grid system. VDE VERLAG GMBH Berlin Offenbach.
