Abstract
Palm oil production has produce abundance of palm oil biomass that have many benefit to the power generation sector. The palm oil mills use the palm oil residue to generate the steam in the boiler. The palm oil residue contain four type of material which is empty fruit bunch(EFB), palm kernel shell(PKS), mesocarp fibre and palm oil effluent (POME). The efficiency of the boiler is depending on the fuel. Only PKS and mesocarp fibre is suitable to be the fuel for the boiler due to the lower moisture content compare to EFB. The ratio of the combination of the PKS and the mesocarp fibre as the fuel for the boiler to obtain higher efficiency has been identified. The moisture content of the PKS and the mesocarp has been discovered. The combustion of fuel in the boiler will produce losses and the losses have been obtained. These losses are affecting the efficiency of the boiler. There are two of the heat losses that been found such as the heat losses due to moisture content in the fuel and the heat loss of the dry flue gas. The system of handling the palm oil residue has been discussed.
