Under high impulse currents, ionisation in soil would occur, in which expands the conducting paths between the ground electrode and the surrounding soils, which is known as the ionisation radii, ri. Ionisation radii can be helpful when designing the grounding systems, in which these radii can be included in the design of grounding systems, hence reduce the physical size of the ground electrodes, as well as predict the safe distances from the ground electrode to the nearby facilities. In this work, ionisation radii of five test media; sand mixed with controlled amount of water content (WC) and enhancement materials (EM), filled in hemispherical and parallel plate test cells are determined. ? 2024 IEEE.en_US
