Abstract
Coastal erosion may be a common phenomenon that occurs on a worldwide site of coastal banks. The effect of regular strengths, such as wind and waves, can alter the shoreline structure and rapid coastal erosion. Eventually, this study is focused on performing a numerical study on sediment scouring by using the discrete particle method-discrete element method (DPM-DEM). The numerical study showed that the number of particles changes as time increases due to the generation of waves. Besides, this study will determine the most critical division as the number of particles starts to change from its initial state. It is also noticed that the lengthening of time would generally boost the number of particles erode and transform the sand formation that will lead to erosion. The findings have been validated with the smooth particle hydrodynamics method to investigate the effectiveness and accuracy of the numerical analysis of DPM-DEM. Based on the findings, Division A is the most critical division since the particle on that division is eroded due to the waves behaviors. 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
