In recent years, about 80% of the global energy supply is depending on fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas. These fossil fuels were being consumed by the entire world’s population and thus increasing the side effects to the world. Therefore, many countries have started to encourage their people to contribute in using renewable energy (RE). As in Malaysia, solar photovoltaic system (PV) is the most compatible system among the RE due to Malaysia coordinate that located at the equator region. For the off-grid PV, the system must be integrated with battery as a storage component. However, this conventional PV system is not operated at optimal condition due to characteristic of the battery that naturally opposes the high PV fluctuation power in a very short period. Therefore, in this project the system will be improved by incorporating the supercapacitor with the battery, or as known as battery supercapacitor hybrid energy storage system (BS-HESS). This hybrid system will be able to reduce the battery stress and to extend battery lifespan. From the results, the BSHESS able to reduce the current fluctuation up to 3.365% compared to battery standalone system. Furthermore, the battery voltage improves up to 5% in BS-HESS system. Thus, the integration of supercapacitor in PV system has improve the overall system performance.en_US
