Abstract
Optical fiber cables are more frequently used in power distribution systems due to their capability of providing electrical isolation. Nevertheless, the use of optical fiber cables in distributing power produces more power loss compared to copper cables. Hence, research work focuses on optimizing the conversion efficiency of optical fiber. In this work, a proof of concept of the Power-over-Fiber (PoF) system has been developed, the optical power output from the laser source and after the fiber spool was measured to be 1.562W and 1.109W, respectively. The peak electrical output power obtained was 0.383 W. It was found that the rate of power increases at each output is different due to conversion loss in the transmission process. The results from these findings can be of reference for PoF systems in other applications. 2022 IEEE.
