Abstract
Rogowski coil has been applied widely in the field of partial discharge measurement. Limited capabilities in Rogowski coil require a new design to increase sensitivities for it in a very low-level partial discharge. High-frequency current transformer is expensive to design and not manufactured locally. There is a need for a universal, low-cost alternative that is suitable to the needs of the local power industry. In the present work, center tap current transformer characteristics are studied. This thesis mainly introduces center tap Rogowski coil applied in partial discharge collection, analyzes and compares with a commercial high-frequency current transformer. The experiment is done by applying sinusoidal input, noise input and pulse input measured by both Rogowski coil and high-frequency current transformer. Cost evaluation is also calculated to show the performance of the Rogowski coil compared to the high-frequency current transformer. The experimental result indicates that the Rogowski coil proves a better alternative compared to a high-frequency current transformer.
