Abstract
This project is to construct a prototype to study the volume of constant magnetic field produced by using Maxwell Coils. This experiment is conducted on plants to study its plant growth based on the DC magnetic field applied to it. The Maxwell Tricoil experiment calculation is improvised to achieve the prototype of this project. This experiment is based on Helmholtz Coils philosophy which produces constant magnetic field in small scale. Maxwell coil produces larger constant magnetic field at a more economical value due to its reduction of number of coil used compared to normal cylindrical solenoid. The software used to run the simulations are Microsoft Excel and 3D Field Pro. Calculations were made using Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and the results were exported to 3D Field Pro for simulation. The simulation results and theoretical value are compared and calculations were made. Construction phase started after the equations and results obtained are confirmed. Most of the equipments used are provided by Universiti Tenaga Nasional BH Lab and the remaining are bought at a nearby hardware shop. Two weeks needed to complete the construction process which includes measuring, cutting, trimming, readjustments and calibrations. The preliminary results were recorded and some calibrations were made to meet the requirements of the project. There are two identical plants (Centella Asiatica) experimented and both of them are planted and then fed with control amount of water and sunlight. The plant with the DC magnetic field exposed, shows signs of increased growth rate after it has been exposed to DC magnetic field for a couple of weeks. This proves that the DC magnetic field does enhance the growth rate of the plants.
