Abstract
Development of smart assistive cane for visually impaired person is an Electronic Travel Aids (ETAs) to upgrade the general existing normal walking stick or cane into a smart cane to lesser the gaps between the visually impaired persons with the normal person. In order to present the ETAS, several research article has been attempted to synthesize the findings. The purpose of this project is to present the development of the smart assistive cane with the help of sensors to detect obstacles for them. This project used three ultrasonic sensors in order to detect distance and size of the obstacles. The usage of ultrasonic sensor can detect the obstacles about 2m away from where the visually impaired person is standing. A buzzer with different pitch is used to notify the distance. Loudest pitch of buzzer will be alarm if the obstacles is nearer the visually impaired person. The three ultrasonic sensor is arrange in a row to detect the size of obstacles which is divided into three category of size (small, medium and large object). The size of object can be notify by the visually impaired person by using a vibrator located at the handle of smart assistive cane. As for next of kin, an apps called At Home Camera is used to monitor the visually impaired person while they are at outside.
