Abstract
This project concentrates on the performance analysis of light weight eco friendly green roof prototype. The prototype of green roof is based on the extensive systems. There are three different types of green roof system which are extensive, semi- intensive and intensive. Extensive systems are the most easy to be set up and provide a suitable alternative to conventional roofing materials for most applications. The objective of the project was to develop eco friendly green roof prototype to analyze the performance in term of the water quantity and water quality. An experimental laboratory tests were conducted to analyze water quantity by using the prototype of green roof based on different depth. In terms of water quality, water sample was taken from flat green roof at the Humid Tropic Centre Kuala Lumpur. The water sample taken was tested according to the required parameters for water quality index. The results obtained from the experiment demonstrated that the depth of the medium could affect the infiltration rate of the green roof prototype. Comparison between the result of 70mm and 100mm depth showed the suitable depth of medium of green roof in Malaysia is 100mm. In order to improve the result, it is recommended to use more rainfall intensity and test the prototype in real-case scenario. Moreover, the result of water quality proved that green roof could improve the quality of the stormwater. The pH of water sample indicates that change from acidic to become neutral. However, in order to improve other parameter, recommendation is need to achieved desired objective.
