This thesis will be devoted on the theoretical study of plaster mold. The study involves fabricating and testing the plaster mold, and comparing the experimental data with the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standards properties. The modified fabricated mold is based on the cast of a 'Pump Gland Follower'. This cast is obtained from `Makinal Loji Berat, Institut Latihan Sultan Ahmad Shah'. Plaster of Paris type 11 (beta hcmi-hydrate or beta gypsum) is used to fabricate the mold. Visual inspections were done to detect the surface defects affecting the cast. The Moisture Content Test was done to obtain the percentage of the free water within the mold, and compared with the standard 5% affirmed by ASTM The percentage of error was calculated based on the deviation from this theoretical moisture content of 5%. Several conclusions arc then drawn from this work. The percentage of error will be less as the percentage of moisture content gets closer to this 5% value. In this work, the moisture content obtained for all the specimens were far less than 5%. Thus, the average percentage of error was as high as 78%. It is found that the optimum consistency ratio is 1 to 1.3, but the theoretical ratio is 1 to 1.1. The surface finish and type of wood for pattern, mold setting and drying time and temperature, flask's characteristics, and the dimensional compatibility of the process and the materials used are the essential features dictating the feasibility of the process. These basic ingredients must be brought together in an orderly sequence to study the plaster mold casting process. Conclusively, this work has become the pre-stages of the study and analysis of the process.
