Cross-linked polyethylene is commonly used as cable insulation for high voltage transmission system. This project investigates the influences of varying insulator physical and geometrical parameters on cable sheath transients based on the theoretical analysis and EMTDC simulations. The study focuses on the effects of outer sheath thickness and relative permittivity on insulator’s capacitance and transient voltages for various possible condition including the earth resistivity and insulator’s permittivity. By understanding the relationship effect would help in order to complete this project. Comparing the objectives with the previous study will be used in designing the optimum thickness for underground high voltage transmission cable.en_US
