dc.description.abstract | There has been a substantial increase in energy generation in the country as a result of the country's rapid expansion and constant economic growth. Peninsular Malaysia currently has 33 power plants (21 thermal power plants and 12 hydropower plants), 86,468 substations, and 33,668 transmission towers. Climate change has been designated as one of the most important environmental concerns of the twenty-first century, and it has ignited a heated discussion. This study on rainfall variability in terms of flood, dry spells and regional drought characteristics is required to gain a better understanding of the flood and dry spells affected by the energy sector in Peninsular Malaysia. In this study, historical data from 1974 to 2000 is gathered to create the Rainfall Variability Index (RVI) as the baseline data. The baseline data is being used to forecast future rainfall for the next 80years, from 2020 to 2100. The future period will be classified into 3 phases which are early century (20202046), themiddle century (20472073) and thelate century (20742100). The forecast data is used to predict extreme events that might affect the energy sector. These findings show that the energy sector in Peninsular Malaysia is affected by floods and drought during those three centuries. The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2023. | en_US |
