Abstract
The world’s energy conservation and environmental protection have been increasingly concerned nowadays. Therefore, the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) technology is speeding up. EVs have better environmental protection performance due to their clean propulsion. EV is categorized as green transportation on 21st century. Besides that, EVs become the main concern for automotive manufacturers, governments and organizations because these types of vehicles are able to reduce exhausting pollution in which it will improves the air environment and adjusts the energy structure. Despite the environmental benefits proposed by the EVs, the charging of a large scale of these vehicles can also resulted enormous negative impacts on the grid operation, such as system losses, harmonics, voltage drop, phase unbalance and many more. This study focus on the effects of EV charging on the grid voltage, specifically in voltage drop. This research also reviewed the types of EV batteries and EV charger configurations, which include the charging standards and objectives control of unidirectional fast charging and bidirectional vehicle to grid charging. The actual charging infrastructure must be designed to investigate the EV charging effect on the grid voltage. Therefore, the EV charger was designed and verified by simulation using MATLAB – Simulink software. The proposed grid system that was also designed in MATLAB – Simulink software is used to test the functionality of the EV charger. Lastly, through this project, it is intended to provide a valuable resource for further progress in this area of study.
