Abstract
The electrical substation is located at the middle of Kajang and Bangi city. More specific it was located in Sg Chua Industrial Area. The location inside the industrial area make the substation experiencing many corrosion phenomenon due to industrial activities. The humdity, temperature, air contaminants and wind are some pf the parameters affecting the corrosion rate. Two methods of finding were carried out in order ti identify the corrosion rate at substation area. Six specimens were placed at different placed inside the substation area according to the difference of environment conditions which are affecting corrosion phenomenon. The specimens were placed at the site for 5 weeks or 33 days. Results obtained from weight loss analysis shown that transformer located near roadside experiencing the highest corrosion rate which is on Specimen 6 with value 6.012x10-2 mm/year. The lowest corrosion rate was on Specimen 1, where it was placed at main gate which is located besides to the residental area with 1.946x10-2 mm/year. From electromechanical testing, Potentiodynamic testing in Gamry software also shown that Specimen 6 had the highest corrosion rate at 2.532x10-2 mm/year. While the lowest corrosion rate also on Specimen 1 with 1.288-10-6 mm/year. Both methods show the same places with the highest and lowest corrosion rate. The value might not similar due to error occured especially during out the weight loss method.
