This thesis describes the contribution of microgrid when it integrated into the power system and hence improves the reliability of the distribution networks. The microgrid system is assume to be part of medium voltage distribution feeder and is supplied by two distributed generators (DGs) which are diesel generator and wind turbine generator. The proposed method to assess the contribution of microgrid and enhance the reliability of the networks is by using Loss of Load Probability (LOLP). Two distinct operation modes are being used as models which are grid connected mode and islanded mode. Scenarios are simulated bases on both planned and unplanned grid connected mode and islanding mode to evaluate the performance of the microgrid and the system. The study results show that the integration of microgrid into the system do enhance the reliability of the distribution networks, reducing the power outage frequency.
