Aerogels, which have highly porous nanostructures that contain 90%-99% air by volume, are considered as an attractive option in various applications. The potential of utilizing agricultural and industrial wastes for aerogel preparation makes them more interesting. Its high surface area and porosity could make it an interesting material for adsorption of water vapor or other gases. Despite its promising potential as a desiccant, only a few research studies were conducted to investigate aerogel as a desiccant material. This study attempted to present the essential concepts and studied research on aerogels as desiccant materials to illustrate the achieved goals, current limitations, and future opportunities. 2021 by Begell House, Inc.en_US
