dc.description.abstractCopper oxide nanoparticles were successfully synthesized using modified gel combustion synthesis. Copper nitrate was used as oxidant while palm oil derived fatty alcohols were used as fuel. The experiment was done by using various carbon chains (C8, C10, and C12) and various oxidant to fuel (O-F) ratios (2:1, 2.5:1, 3:1, and 3.5:1). X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns of the calcined samples have consistent sharp peak indicating synthesized CuO nanoparticles were in monoclinic phase and purely crystalline except for C12 which has an extra peak at (111) plane which has 36.50° of diffraction peaks. The morphological, structures for all the samples were agglomerated due to heat and gasses generated during the decomposition. The crystallite sizes of the samples were between ca. 21 nm to 35 nm. The energy band-gap for the samples was obtained were at ca. 2.79 eV to 3.72 eV.
