Abstract
The search for an alternative, cleaner and sustainable resources for power generation is long overdue. Although there are various types of renewable energy that have been identified and implemented successfully in other countries, Malaysia is still progressing very poorly in increasing the renewable energy shares in its power generation mix. Biogas has deemed to be a feasible clean energy that not only generates clean electricity but doubles as a solution to wastewater and other organic
waste treatments.
Various countries have had a successful story with biogas with large installations. This thesis is developed the success factor of Thailand, Germany and China from policies and technologies perspective. The challenges faced in those countries and how the barriers were overcome were also discussed prior to discussing Malaysia's biogas development barriers. Lastly, discussions on Malaysia's biogas scene as well as strategies for Malaysia biogas development shall be proposed based on the study made on other countries.
