The idea of smart grid demand response communication will benefit utilities and consumers. Monitoring the electric usage of a residential area will enable the users to be more conscious about the power consumption in their respective houses. On the other hand, the utility companies can manage the power distribution dynamically, since they have real time feedback from the consumers. This project looks into the challenge of power management through demand response since it is a relatively new idea and has not been implemented in Malaysia. The project aims to develop a smart grid communication demand response tool using LabVIEW. A demand response environment will designed at the user as well as the utility side. It is expected that the user will be able to view their overall power consumption and at the utility side will be able to view the trend of power consumption for a group of houses and load distribution decision making.
