dc.description.abstract | Offshore oil field utilize heavy pumps to suck the liquid or inject the liquid (often refers to the sea water or other liquid minerals) from the seabed to the platform. The pump is the key component and it converts the kinetic energy (from rotary of motor) into useful energy that suck the liquid out from the seabed. In this project, the main focus is not the new design of the pump, but it is an upgrade design for vertical canister pump. The reason why the pump needs to upgrade is because very old, the parts or the accessories not available in the market, the performance is very slow and noisy. Due to the age, the pump supposed to change, but another reason not changing is because of cost. Changing one pump will cause millions of dollar. As such, re-design and upgrade will cause cost less than three hundred thousand dollar. Therefore, it is worth to re-design rather than changing the whole pump. The design process can be seen in chapter under the methodology. The reason for the design will be linked to problem statements, where the problem now is the pump parts cannot get from market, so it has to be re-design. Chapter 3 also states the materials testing. This is to test those selected materials to design the pump. It is needed to get this information for the confirmation of simulation results. | |
