Abstract
Natural fibers have recently attracted the attention of scientists and technologists because
these fibers offer advantages over conventional reinforcing materials and the
development of natural fiber composites has been a subject of interest in recent years.
The need in developments of advanced engineering materials for engineering applications
gone on increasing, the composite materials are much more preferred element for it, 3
different composites with different percentages (2%,4% and 6%), had been chosen, and
these composites contained two polymers which are (Epoxy and Polyurethane) and two
natural fibers (Coconut shell & Kenaf). These composites had been tested by Impact test,
Hardness test, abrasion test and SEM. Based on the results it can be observed that the
best composite that obtained is Coconut and Polyurethane, the best results for the impact
strength with amount of 6% is 0.01 J/cm², then the highest value of hardness strength
recorded as 19.26 HRB when it used 4% of coconut fiber, for SEM it observed that 6% of
Coconut fiber is well blended to Polyurethane and based on the result of abrasion test it
found that Epoxy and coconut (2%) composite has lost only 1.287% of its initial weight
after 40s which indicate that it has the highest wear resistance among the other tested
composites.
