Abstract
Retaining walls are structures designed to sustain soil from unnatural slopes. They are used to bound soils between two different elevations predominantly in areas of terrain possessing unwanted slopes or in areas where the landscape needs to be shaped severely and engineered for more specific purposes like hillside farming or roadway overpasses. Retaining walls provide permanent lateral support to vertical or near vertical slopes of soils.
Slopes one of soil problems and retaining wall founded to solve it the stability of retaining wall and still a major concern for the engineers when they designing the retaining wall.so they considered some factors that affect the stability of retaining wall for instance the size and type of retaining wall, the factor of safety for the influence factor such as overturning, sliding, bearing capacity of failure.
This research depends on computer Modeling and simulation which is getting all the information about how does the retaining wall will behave without actually testing it in real life. The experiment conducted with different values of cohesion and friction angle of soft clay to show the stability failure analysis by using geo structure analysis software in order to get the most optimum design with minimum Factor of Safety.
