Abstract
Harmonic current is one of the main power quality issues happen in the plant industry nowadays. It is being produced by non-linear loads such as variable speed drive," induction motor, thyristor-based inverter etc. These non-linear loads normally employ the usage of power electronics device. This is undesirable as the harmonic current will damage equipment easily thus reducing the lifespan. The most common way to solve this problem is by using passive filter. However, it has undesirable downsides. 7 Therefore, this research focuses on mitigating the harmonic problem by designing a shunt active filter based on PQ Theory introduced by H. Akagi. This theory uses Clarke transformation and inverse of it to calculate the compensation current needed to inject to cancel the harmonic current produced at the load side. The simulation is done using Simulink software. From different cases studied, author can analyse the behaviour of waveforms and study the Total Harmonic Distortion obtained.
