Abstract
The thesis reported the ventilation effectiveness in a commercial underground car park. In general the underground car parks should be in safe mode. In other words, the concentration of the toxic gases that emits from the vehicle's internal combustion engines should not exceed the maximum allowable concentration related to the indoor car park standards. However, with the technology rises and facility that is available nowadays it is possible to do research and improvement of the ventilation in Plaza Alam Sentral indoor basements car park. In this case study three objectives were taken into consideration. This experiment was conducted during Hari Raya, weekend and weekdays. Carbon monoxide level and four other parameters were presented in the results of the experiments. Furthermore, these parameters levels were measured in selected locations within different times including, morning, afternoon, evening and night. The reason for using various times was to observe concentration changes. The purpose of the experiments was to detect the polluted zones in the two basements of the underground car park. However, the underground car park was model and simulate by using SOLIDWORKS and ANSYS FLUENT programs, respectively. The results in ANSYS simulation were observed in contours of mass fraction, mole concentration and enthalpy for the carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide parameters. Some possible solutions were suggested to improve the air quality and ventilation in the targeted zones and simulate it to show the variance between the results with the usage of the solutions.
