Abstract
During extreme outdoor activities such as hiking or camping, one of the issues that people
are concerned about is energy. Power bank is one way to charge electronics and it is reliable. However, the use of power bank has to be conservative depending on the amount of power bank that is brought during the outdoor activity.
Outdoor activities are exposed to the natural environment where there is the sun, water and biomass such as dry leaves and animal leavings. However, these energies cannot be harvested by campers or hikers due to the size of the equipment. Renewable energy is not only defined by natural energy but also energy harvested from waste energy produced by human's activities. For hiking or camping, the waste energy that can be harvested is the heat produced by the portable stove. The generator that is suitable for this purpose is the thermoelectric generator. Thermoelectric generator uses the temperature difference to produce electrical energy.
Second Law of Thermodynamics stated that in an attempt to equalize the temperature between the hot and cold junction, heat energy travels from the hot junction towards the cold junction. This law can be utilized to manipulate the temperature difference using thermodynamic knowledge such as specific heat capacity, thermal conductivity and cooling techniques by design to increase the efficiency of thermoelectric generator (Amr, Hassan, Abdel-Salam, & El-Sayed, 2019).
