According the previous study, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) chosen wood, steel and fiberglass as the substances for the cross arm of the transmission tower and is plagued with the issue of torsional failure of the cross-arm part. So that, TNB has overlooked the properties of Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) in creating a better result. In this paper, the torsional performances of five brands of GFRP tube which are Higoal, VMCC, Electrius, Wagner and PUPI is tested. The objectives of this paper are to determine the effect of thickness and fiber directions of GFRP tube to the torsion strength, investigate the failure pattern of GFRP tube due to the torsional load and evaluate the ultimate torsional strength and angle of twist of the GFRP tube. Total 10 specimens of 1m are test and subjected to combined effect of torsion and bending. A loading frame and test set up are fabricated for applying combined torsion and bending. Ultimate load, ultimate torsional moment, ultimate angle of twist and ultimate strain are compared between different brand of GFRP tube.en_US
